What Does a Board & Train day look like?
During your dog’s day in Board and Train they will be getting a morning exercise/ play session, followed by breakfast using enrichment feeder or first training session of the day. Then they will have time to rest, some play time, field trip, and another training session. After another break for a nap, they will get dinner (Enrichment Feeder) and their final training session, followed by a final walk before bedtime. It’s a full day of learning and fun! We track potty, traininig reps, and sleep time
What will my dog learn in Board & Train?
What your dog will learn depends entirely on what goals you have for them. There are general foundation skills, but each puppy training plan is tailored around what you would like your dog to learn and focus on. Our consultation is where we learn about what you will be doing with your dog. We have some puppies that go on to travel regularly in a private plane, learn to assist their handler, live in high-rise complexes, trick dogs, or going to be living in the big city.

During the training time dogs are working one on one with a professional dog trainer for 2-5 minute sessions at a time. When pups are waiting their turn they will be practicing known behaviors such as settling on a mat, place or crate. Some pups will be rotating through enrichment games or puzzles while waiting their turn for their one on one time. We pay very close attention to dog body language and take into consideration the age and ability of the dog when going through the day’s schedule.
Desensitization and Exploration. Being exposed and becoming accustomed towards a variety of sounds, smells, and sights such as door bell, fireworks, garbage trucks, household appliances such as: vacuum hair dryer, grooming table, is an important part of your pups training. Along with having a positive association with these common sounds and objects we also work on exploring new objects to train pups to be okay with discovering something new.
How does All-Day Dog School work and how is the day structured?
Each day at Day school is structured to give your pup just the right combination of training time, small group play or walk time, enrichment and chill out time. Modeled after a school-like schedule and structure, we shape puppies and dogs into well-mannered members of the family. Our goal is to relieve the stress of training by offering exceptional support and training services, while simultaneously building owners’ confidence in their ability to manage their pup at home and in public with ease. We take the ruff out of puppyhood! Your pup joins us for a semester at Canine Learning Academy where they are picked up in the morning for a full day of specialized training, socialization and fun! At pick up time, owners are filled in on how their puppy performed that day, are given tips on what to work on at home, and receive an email or video report card to keep track of their pup’s progress.
School is Available Mon, Wed and Friday; Tuesday/Thurs we offer Enrichment Daycare
How often does my dog need to attend Day Training School if he/she is just starting?
Our attendance is three (3) days per week, but we highly recommend watching the online video that we provide with our enrolled parents to practice your own skills to ensure your pup gets a consistent training experience. By attending Canine Learning Academy for at least one entire semester, we are able to establish and maintain a daily routine with your puppy, which promotes effective learning. Through this repetition, puppies and dogs quickly learn what is expected of them and good behavior patterns. Your pup learns new things every day. By being with them regularly, we have a significant impact on shaping their behavior. We are able to closely monitor your pup, and instill good manners using all force free and positive reinforcement training.
My vet/breeder said to wait until my puppy has all its shots befoe taking anywhere. When should I start training my puppy?
What are your training methods?
We are proud to say we are Force Free and Positive Reinforcement Trainers! Our training methods are cutting edge, science-based, and designed to be fun for you and your dog both. They’re effective, too! We teach all of the “basic obedience” skills you’re familiar with, and much more. The training skills we work on with our dayschool attendees include sit, down, stay, come when called, relax in a crate and a place, targeting nose and paw, and loose-leash walking. Our program focuses on self-control. Your puppy will learn to behave politely around food and toys (without jumping up & trying to steal them) and wait for permission to go through doorways and to exit a crate. All of this is without nagging your puppy to “leave it,” or “get off.” Since your pup will be under our direct supervision, your pup will not get to practice these common, frustrating behaviors: jumping up on people, chewing furniture, nipping people, counter-surfing, and pulling on leash. Our head trainers are graduates of the Karen Pryor Academy, the Harvard of dog training schools. Our puppy and dog counselors undergo extensive training on the care, handling, and developmental needs of the dogs and puppies in our program. In short, we’re experts.
What is Enrichment Daycare?
Why is it more expensive compared to other doggy daycare?
Our Day School programs aren’t anything like a typical doggy daycare, just like a Montessori school isn’t a daycare. Our program is staffed by professional certified positive dog trainers, and the primary focus is training – not playtime. Enrolling your puppy or adult dog with us is an investment in your dog’s future behavior. We also keep a very low dog-to-staff ratio. Industry standard for dog daycares is 15-25 dogs per 1 (one) staff member. Our standard is no more than 6 dogs per trainer.
What is required to join Enrichment Daycare?
Please apply online here! Applicants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis; space is limited for our daycare. Once you are registered online, please schedule your initial assessment, you will be able to schedule online or contact us (phone or email). Before enrolling your pup in the academy for any of our services you will need to complete your registration and submit a copy of the needed vaccinations. Once your application has been submitted, we will schedule your dog for a meet and greet or consultation. The consultation gives us a chance to meet and see if your dog enjoys the daycare and enrichment environment. Your dog will enjoy multiple activities that the team has planned for the day. They will actually be using their brains with games and puzzles, agility, or enjoying a nice relaxing trail walk. For dogs that do not enjoy our center, we do offer in home daily dog walking and dog training.
Enrichment Daycare Must Haves:
- Current vaccination records for Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, & Bordetella.
- Puppies (typically 12 weeks of age or older) must have completed all puppy shots prior to daycare.
- Pass a temperament assessment prior to beginning daycare.
- Proof of a negative fecal test result.
- Must be on flea and heartworm preventative.
I want my family to be involved in the training. Is that an option?
How do I get started?
We accept only a limited amount of students each semester to work with. This allows your pup to receive the uppermost personal attention and care from us. After booking your evaluation, please send us your dog’s health records. For pups over 12 weeks of age, we need proof of vaccination against rabies, parvo, distemper, and bordetella (kennel cough). We also need proof of a negative fecal test result. (For pups under 12 weeks of age at the time of enrollment, rabies vaccination is optional.) You can upload online (Member Log-in) through or scan (take a pic) and e-mail these records to us, or have your vet send them to us. Our e-mail is email@example.com. We love our students and treat them as if they were our own. It is our joy and privilege to be your pup’s source of affection, companionship, and teacher when you are not around. Their well-being and safety is our number one priority, and we are grateful to be a part of their lives!
What are you health and safety practices?
All dogs must be current on all of their vaccinations, at all times, and provide proof of vaccinations throughout enrollment. This includes DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies.
In addition, every pup must pass a health check each morning at check-in before admittance granted admission into any of our programs with the Academy. During our check-in, pups are examined closely for hot spots, rashes, fleas, and other signs that may indicate a health concern like red eyes, a runny nose, inflamed gums, bacteria on the paws, etc. Any dog exhibiting a potential health concern will not be allowed to attend the Academy until the problem is resolved. This is in the best interest of the sick dog and every other student at the Academy, in order to maintain the healthiest atmosphere possible. We check your pups poop! This may sound silly, but many health issues can be detected by their stool firmness, color, and the frequency of defecations your pup has. If we notice anything off, we will advise you right away, so you may choose to see your vet if it persists. All of our students trained in a protected, area with secure equipment (harness and leashes) to ensure no students can slip out.
The Canine Learning Academy van is cleaned and sanitized continuously throughout the day with safe, pet-friendly disinfectants, to ensure the top level of cleanliness.
There’s no water bowl sharing and water bowls and toys are washed, cleaned, and disinfected daily.
