An event every week that begins at 4:00 pm on Thursday, repeating indefinitely
If your dog has a hard time with care such as nail trims, medication, grooming or the vets, cooperative care can be a game changer.
Your dog is resisting, struggling, growling, snapping; it really isn’t because they’re dramatic, stubborn or difficult. While it can lead to putting off routine care, there’s a better way to help them feel better about these experiences, so you can both feel less stressed!
This course is suitable for all dog guardians who want to better understand how to increase participation and create comfort and safety for their dogs.
This class is intended to guide you through proactive husbandry training for your dog. Husbandry is a term that covers all types of necessary physical care. Grooming and veterinary procedures fall into this category. We often neglect husbandry behaviors and either ignore the possible future need or force the issue when necessary. Our goal in this class will be to teach our dogs to cooperate with us for a variety of required behaviors. We will do a quick review of operant and classical conditioning, and use both in our work.
FAQ:
This is a modular offering. The initial 3 classes will provide an indepth overview of consent based training for care and grooming, and teach you and your dogs the foundations for less-stress handling practice.
The subsequent classes will focus on a theme each month: teeth, nails, ears etc.
No special equipment is needed. During class we will use pillows, towels, short stools or a stack of books and other common household objects (plastic containers, cups etc), and dog supplies (comb, brush, shampoo bottle etc).
Our ultimate goal is to have dogs who are relaxed and calm for procedures that will benefit their health and well-being. This class is appropriate for dogs of all ages and at all levels of training.
